About the Conference

The IUMRS-ICEM, started in 1988 and the first meetings were held in Japan, which is one of the most important serial conferences of the International Union of Materials Research Societies (IUMRS) and has been organized biennially. This meeting is often organized in a number of themes each comprising a number of symposia, according to research areas/topics. The IUMRS-ICEM is one of the most important platforms for materials researchers to present their latest research findings, interact with their peers, and establish research collaborations.

Following the successful conferences in past three decades, the first IUMRS-ICEM will be firstly held in Hong Kong, jointly organizing by the IUMRS, Hong Kong Materials Research Society (HKMRS) and Hong Kong Branch of National Precious Metals Material Engineering Research Center (NPMM) of City University of Hong Kong (CityU).

The IUMRS-ICEM 2024 will consist of stimulating program of plenary sessions, keynote speeches, panel discussions, poster presentations and exhibitions in advance materials. We aim to make the conference a genuine two-way process and as such, technology knowledge transfer, commercialization and industrialization can be further enhanced through the interactivity.

Organizers

The International Union of Materials Research Societies (IUMRS) was established in 1991 as an international association of technical groups or societies which have an interest in promoting interdisciplinary materials research and education. It is also a multilateral scientific society that has brought together scientists from different countries and disciplines, contributing to the progress on materials and technologies for the betterment of society. With adhering bodies in all continents, IUMRS represents researchers responsible for ca. 70% of the entire scientific output in materials-related publications in the world. Of special relevance is the IUMRS commitment to foster a collaborative and inclusive environment where members work together, share ideas, and take part on conferences and other events with global reach. Through the adhering bodies, advocacy initiatives have been implemented for IUMRS scientists to engage with the broader community and to advocate for policies that foster the advancement of science.
The Hong Kong Materials Research Society (HKMRS) is a distinguished organization that was established in October 1997 with the invaluable assistance of Professor Ian Wilson from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Professor Ming Yu from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The society's inaugural meeting took place at CUHK, marking the beginning of its remarkable journey. HKMRS continues to be at the forefront of promoting research excellence, organizing impactful conferences, and facilitating networking opportunities for professionals in the materials science community. As a forward-thinking organization, HKMRS remains dedicated to advancing the frontiers of materials research and driving innovation in this dynamic field.
The establishment of the Hong Kong Branch of National Precious Metals Material Engineering Research Center (NPMM) at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of the People’s Republic of China in November 2015. The core objective of setting up the branch is to strengthen the national center’s overall capacity by developing the research of precious metals and nanomaterials, as well as the relevant devices.
NPMM positions itself to carry out fundamental and applied research to develop new precious metallic materials and upgrade conventional precious metallic materials and to fulfill the need of precious materials for the development of national economy, high-tech industrial development and national defense.
